The Walsall Branch of the Samaritans needs £250,000 for a new building after 50 years at its present site in Bott Lane. Walsall Council have been extremely supportive over the years and recently confirmed they can stay on the site in Bott Lane and that they can add a new structure.
The existing one is crumbling away (see photo) and they have launched Project 55 looking for 250 individuals, clubs or businesses who can pledge to raise £1000 during 2024.
On Saturday the 8th June 2024 W.Bro J. C. Cairns PPr.JGW,PPr.GStwD(Shrop) (himself a former listening volunteer at Walsall Samaritans for ten years from 1996 to 2006) met the current and former Branch Director’s to present a cheque for £1000.00 on behalf of the brethren of Walton Walker & Sandwell 3847 ( see photo) several of whose brethren have strong connection with Walsall and Wolverhampton Samaritans.

On Thursday 27th April 2023 at the regular meeting of Walton Walker and Sandwell 3847 the Provincial Grand Master RW Bro. John Lockley was pleased to present Bro. John C.M. Chambers with a 55 years certificate in Freemasonry and to promote him to the rank of P.Pr. S.G.W. after he had completed 55 Years in Masonry on the 19 April 2023. (See Photo)
John Claudius M. Chambers was a Lewis to his father, Percy Chambers, himself a Lewis, in Lewisham Lodge No. 2582. He was initiated on 19th April 1968, and was raised on 12th November 1968.
John is an electrical engineer by trade and worked for Crabtree in Walsall for many years as well as lecturing on Engineering at the local college. He served his National Service with the Army in Germany as part a of REME unit attached to the Tank Regiment. He is a widower having sadly lost his wife Margaret in 2015 and has a married son and a daughter. They are members of Wesley Methodist Church West Bromwich and are regular attendees.
John found that ritual did not come easy but persevered to complete the Junior Warden chair of Lewisham Lodge No.2582 but did not progress to the Chair of King Solomon.
After his father died John asked his friend WBro. Derek H. Percival if he would propose him as a joining member of Sandwell Lodge No. 4673 which was fulfilled on the 19th December 1989.
He served Sandwell Lodge as the Lodge Secretary for some twenty years, for which he received Provincial honours of P Pr JGD as a Brother. On the amalgamation of Sandwell Lodge with Walton Walker Lodge No. 3847 on the 10th June 2009 John again took the office of Junior Warden and is currently an honorary member of Walton Walker & Sandwell Lodge No. 3847.
John is a man of many skills and talents. He is a skilled silversmith and also skilled in wood and metalwork. He made a beautiful lectern for his local church and a set of miniature working tools in silver to be given to his friend W Bro Derek H Percival when he was in the chair of Sandwell Lodge No 4673 in 1988 ( see photos). Another of John’s skills is Calligraphy which he used for Table Plans and also for presentations. Ann Percival wrote a poem to celebrate the golden wedding of
