ABOUT US

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Its roots lie in the traditions and ceremonies of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Some rituals are still celebrated today.

Three Great Principles
There are Three Great Principles in Freemasonry which have been followed for many years:

1. Brotherly Love
Every true Freemason will show tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and behave with kindness and understanding to his fellow creatures.
2. Relief
Freemasons are taught to practice charity and to care, not only for their own, but also for the community as a whole, both by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals.
3. Truth
Freemasons strive for truth, requiring high moral standards and aiming to achieve them in their own lives. Freemasons believe that these principles represent a way of achieving higher standards in life.

What are our values
Freemasonry has always been about making good men better individuals with the aim to shape their lives round those universal values that guide all good men.

INTEGRITY

Honesty in business, courtesy in society, fairness in work. We say what we mean and we keep our promises.

KINDNESS

Although our families come first, we believe in playing a key role in our communities and give time and money to charitable ventures.

FAIRNESS

We treat everyone as equal – we listen to others, explore any differences and look for common ground.

HONESTY

We pride ourselves on openness, about what being a Freemason means for us.

TOLERANCE

We respect the opinions of others and behave with understanding towards them.
These principles are so universal to the basis of a working society that they are an essential way of life for each of its members.

"I say that one of the greatest values in Masonry is that it affords an opportunity for men of all walks of life to meet on common ground where all men are equal and have one common interest."   - Theodore Roosevelt
